Aetna HealthFund® Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

How the plan works:

STEP #1: The Fund: Western Union Contributes

At the beginning of the year, Western Union establishes a fund for you and deposits:
  • Western Union HRA contribution: $500 individual/$1,000 family

You use your fund dollars to pay your out-of-pocket medical and prescription drug expenses. If you do not use up the fund and you stay in the HRA plan next year, any unused funds will roll over. If you use up the fund during the year, you move to the next stage, the deductible.

STEP #2: The Deductible: You Pay, The Fund Helps

You have to meet your deductible before the medical and prescription drug plans start to pay benefits. The deductible is a set amount of eligible expenses you pay each year before the medical and prescription drug plans start to pay benefits. If your fund is depleted before the deductible is met, you pay your remaining expenses until it is met. If you have family coverage, once the sum of covered expenses applied toward the individual deductibles for you and any covered dependents reaches the family deductible limit, you and your dependents will all be considered as having met your deductible. Annual deductible amounts are:
  • In-network or out-of-network deductible: $1,500 individual/$3,000 family

The fund will reduce your deductible and you pay the remainder. Once you have met your deductible, you move to the next stage.

STEP #3: The Medical Plan: The Majority of Your Costs Are Covered

Once you meet your deductible, your medical plan pays a percentage of eligible medical expenses and you pay the rest. Preventive care is not subject to the deductible and is covered at 100% in-network or out-of-network. Most other covered services are paid as follows:
  • In-network: plan pays 90% and you pay 10%
  • Out-of-network: plan pays 70% up to the reasonable and customary charge and you pay 30% plus any amount above reasonable and customary

Every year there is a limit to the amount you have to pay out of your pocket for covered expenses:

  • In-network out-of-pocket maximum: $2,500 individual/$5,000 family
  • Out-of-network out-of-pocket maximum: $4,000 individual/$8,000 family

If you reach this amount, the plan will pay 100% of covered medical expenses. However, you are still responsible for paying your prescription drug copays.

Note: If you live outside an Aetna network, you may enroll in Aetna HealthFund HRA and use the plan's out-of-network coverage.
